Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) would not review the compensation amount to Andal block villagers in Durgapur for its 1000 MW thermal power project.

"The compensation that we are offering is adequate and there is no need for its review. Also, we cannot promise jobs in our project for members of all the displaced families", AK Barman, chairman, DVC told Business Standard.

Barman's statement has come in response to the move of the villagers of Andal who had refused their compensation cheques for DVC's proposed 1000 MW thermal power project, alleging that the compensation amount was inadequate.

Last month, the villagers encircled the Andal block development officer (BDO) for hours accusing him of not considering several modifications in the land records while preparing the compensation cheques for their land.

About 1000 acres of land, mostly non-agricultural, needs to be acquired in Andal block for DVC's project.

In the first phase, payment for 500 acres of land acquisition was scheduled. A section of the villagers had also demanded jobs as compensation for their land.
