Noshir Kaka, a director in McKinsey, has been appointed the managing director (MD) of its India practice. Adil Zainulbhai, who served as MD for seven years, will become the chairman in India.
Dominic Barton, McKinsey’s Global MD said, "I have asked Noshir to rotate into this role and Adil to become chairman of the practice until his retirement at the end of 2013. Adil has helped build our pre-eminent position in India, and developed our broad leadership group. We are excited about our strong team of partners in India, many of whom also play important global roles as leaders of industry and functional practices."
McKinsey has a longstanding tradition of rotating leadership roles every five to six years. The India practice office now has a group of 12 senior partners, including Noshir and Adil, and 29 partners, apart from the 2,350 staff.
In his new role, Noshir will continue advising clients while leading McKinsey’s operations in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and Bangalore. As chairman, Adil will remain in India, working with clients and serving as an advisor at industry, public sector, and government forums.
Noshir joined McKinsey in 1994 and was one of the founding members of its India office. He is also one of the founders of McKinsey Solutions, a capability that helps clients rapidly improve performance by combining insight and expertise with more than two dozen proprietary data, analytics, and technology tools. He frequently speaks at NASSCOM, with whom McKinsey has partnered to develop reports on the technology and business services industry.
Noshir, a commerce graduate from Mumbai University, received his Master of Management Studies in Finance from the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies in Mumbai.
