Nov sees mixed trend for 2-wheelers

 Motorcycle leader Hero Honda continued its good run, registering a 26 per cent increase in its sales at 2,04,533 units this November. CD-Dawn, which was launched in April 2003, has retained its leadership in the entry segment. CD-Dawn is now the second highest selling motorcycle model in the country, after the Hero Honda Splendor.

 Bajaj Auto registered a 17.4 per cent growth in the motorcycle segment though their total two-wheeler sales grew only 0.25 per cent. Bajaj sold 91,257 motorcycles last month against 77,732 motorcycles in the same period of the previous year.

 Their scooters sales dipped 37.66 percent in November as they sold only 21907 units last month as against 35142 units sold in the same month of the previous year.

 In a reversal of the industry trend, TVS Motor registered a growth in the scooter and moped segments even as its motorcycle sales fell.

 The company recorded a 42 per cent increase in its scooter sales and continued to dominate the segment with 16,827 units in November 2003 compared to 11,815 units sold last year during the same period.

 TVS Moped registered a growth of 13 per cent by clocking 20,601 units in November 2003 compared with 18,285 units last year.

 Motorcycle sales in November declined 30 per cent to 48,052 units compared with 68,631 units over the same period last year.

 The decline was owing to the drop in sales of two stroke Max Motorcycles, said a company spokesperson and this trend is expected to continue even in December 2003.

 Total two wheeler sales for TVS Motor Company showed a negative trend with a 13 per cent decline.The numbers for the other companies were not available.
