About 200 Kingfisher Airlines engineers were protesting over salary delays and had taken mass leave.
While the airline paid December salaries to employees, earlier in the month, about 200-250 engineers and handful of employees from other departments are yet to be paid.
"The engineers were told the salary will be credited by Friday. However, the disbursal did not take place. In protest, about 200 engineers did not report for work on Saturday. The engineers have either reported sick or taken leave. However, there has been no impact on flights as the airline had curtailed schedule since last month,'' an airline source said.
However in view of safety concerns, Director General of Civil Aviation E K Bhushan asked the air safety department to monitor the airline's operations on Saturday.
Kingfisher spokesperson did not respond to SMS query. However, a senior executive said, "There appears to be an issue at the bank's end. We are resolving it. There is no reason why every one should get paid but not 200 engineers.''
