The National Small Industries Association (NSIC) aims to generate business turnover of Rs 1,500 crore through its various schemes in the state during the current fiscal.

"In 2014-15, we had a turnover of about Rs 1,000 crore from the state. This year we hope it would reach Rs 1,500 crore which includes income from tender marketing on behalf MSEs (micro and small enterprises), raw material distribution, finance to units through bank tie-ups, raw material assistance against bank guarantee," said PC Nayak, deputy zonal general manager, NSIC (Odisha). "We have signed a memorandum of understanding with the NSIC headquarters on our business plan," he added. NSIC, Odisha, has been given a target of Rs 120 crore for tender marketing on behalf of the MSEs. The units registered with NSIC are eligible to get the benefits under Public Procurement Policy for Micro & Small Enterprises (MSEs) scheme. As per the policy, every central ministry, department and PSU shall set an annual goal of purchasing minimum 20 per cent of their total annual requirement of products or services from MSEs. Out of this 20 per cent stipulation, four per cent is earmarked for MSEs promoted by schedule caste and schedule tribe persons.

NSIC plans to register 2,500 new MSMEs in the state in this financial year for providing different services. Presently, NSIC is rendering services to about 1,000 small scale units in the state.

NSIC, operating under Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), has signed pacts with various nationalised and private banks for credit facilitation to the MSMEs under its bank tie-up scheme. Through syndication with these banks, NSIC arranges for credit support (fund or non-fund based limits) from banks without any cost to MSMEs. All documentation pertaining to completion and submission of credit proposals to banks is also undertaken by NSIC. NSIC, Odisha, has been awarded for its phenomenal service in restoration work in Andhra Pradesh which was battered by severe cyclonic storm Hud Hud last year. The regional office had sent 495 people and electrical equipment worth Rs 18 crore for the restoration of operation.
