With the failure of tri-partite talks, the indefinite strike by workers of National Textile Corporation (NTC) attached textile mills in Tamil Nadu over Deepavali bonus issue entered the third day today.
In view of the failure of the talks held yesterday in Chennai convened by Joint Labour Commissioner, leaders of Joint Action Council of major textile trade unions met here this afternoon and decided to continue the strike, AITUC General Secretary M Arumugam told PTI.
They also decided to stage a demonstration in front of NTC main office here tomorrow protesting the delay in reaching a settlement. The JAC would meet immediately after the demonstration to decide the future course of action, as Deepavali is just a day away, he said.
Though some senior NTC officials assured to take up the matter with the top management at Delhi, nothing concrete has emerged so far, Arumugam said.
Leaders of major textile trade unions AITUC, CITU, BMS, INTUC, LPF, MLF and HMS are spearheading the strike by about 5,000 workers of seven NTC mills since Oct 13 demanding that bonus be calculated on percentage of the total earnings of the workers.
The management is opposing the demand, claiming that the mills were not making any profit.
