NTPC lays foundation for 10 Mw solar plant

The construction work of the solar plant has been awarded to BHEL

Maharatna power utility NTPC Ltd on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of 10 Mw photo voltaic (PV) solar plant at Kaniha, the site of its 3,000 Mw super thermal power station.

The solar project, spread over 45 acres of land, is being constructed within the premises of NTPC Kaniha at two locations - Patharmunda (2 Mw) and Stage-II township (8 Mw).

The construction work of the solar plant has been awarded to Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL). The plant will generate 14.1 million units of electricity annually.

The foundation stone was laid by A K Jha,director (technical) and V B Fadnavis, executive director, NTPC Talcher Kaniha in the presence of C V Anand, general manager (operation & maintenance), U K Dasgupta, general manager (maintenance) and Chandan Chakraborty, general (operation) were also present.
 

With zero pollution, the plant will contribute 13,982 tonne reduction in carbon dioxide generation. The biggest thermal power producer in the country has already commissioned two solar PV projects at Dadri and Andaman & Nicobar, each of 10 Mw capacity.
