Three coal laden rakes containing 4,000 tonne of coal reached the NTPC power station on the maiden day of supplies. The new coal linkage is expected to raise power generation and mitigate problems faced by the power plant due to shortfall in coal supplies.

So far, the power plant has been sourcing coal from Lingaraj mines and other coal mines in Talcher coalfields. The power station has also been importing coal to meet its requirement.
