NTPC Limited would add about 6,550 Mega watt power in the four southern states by 2017. For this, the company would invest about Rs 32,750 crore.

“NTPC now generates 3,950 Mw in the southern region while another 2,500 Mw power plants are in the construction stage. Apart from this, we have proposed to add another 6,550 Mw in the region,” Ambarish Nath Dave, regional executive director (South), told mediapersons here on Thursday.

He said NTPC was adding another 1,000 Mw at its Simhadri power plant with an investment of Rs 5,000 crore. Simhadri already has a 1,000 Mw capacity (2X500 Mw). The first 500 Mw unit would be ready by the end of this fiscal and the second unit would commence production next fiscal. According to an earlier power purchase agreement, of the 1,000 Mw, Andhra Pradesh would get 35 per cent.

The Simhadri unit achieved 97.27 per cent plant load factor (PLF) in 2009-10. However, by this October end, the PLF stood at 93.02 per cent due to repair works, he said.
