State-owned NTPC today said that it would set up a 1,320 Mw coal-based thermal power project in Gujarat.
The state government of Gujarat has given clearance for setting up the project on the surplus land at the existing Dhuvaran plant of the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation (GSECL), the company said in a statement.
The proposed thermal power project shall have two units of 660 Mw Super Critical Technology, utilising domestic coal blended with imported coal, it said.
The current power generation capacity of the company is over 30,000 Mw and the company is planning to take this capacity to 50,000 Mw by 2012.
NTPC is initiating the site specific studies for establishing the techno-economic feasibility of the project. The feasibility report of the project is likely to be ready by March, 2011, the statement said.
