The industry sold a record 12 lakh colour sets during the month primarily because of a demand pull around Diwali and other festivals around the same time.

At the beginning of the season, the industry was hoping 10 per cent of sales will come from flat TVs. But the final count shows flat TVs made up for 15-20 per cent of total CTV volumes sold.

Not only this, inventories across models have been reduced significantly and with sales expected to touch 7.5 lakh even in November, thanks to the wedding season, good harvest and delayed bonus payments, there is an urgent need to bridge the demand supply gaps, especially of imported models. Currently, almost the entire requirement for flat TV picture tubes is imported.
