Oil spill from a pipeline of ONGC passing through a well in Ankleshwar caught fire today in Ardol village of Bharuch district of Gujarat, an ONGC spokesperson said.
The incident occurred when the officials were busy recovering the spill which had reached the fields belonging to a farmer due to rains, they said adding it has been controlled and no damage was reported. “Two days ago, a leakage from our pipeline passing from well number 55 in Ankleshwar was reported. Due to rains, the oil spill reached the field of a farmer and a fire broke out this morning,” spokesperson of ONGC’s Ankleshwar Asset L M Joshi said.
Following the report of leakage, the pipeline was repaired but the oil spill by that time trickled down with rains to a farmer’s field in Ardol village, which is 25 kilometres from Ankleshwar, he said.
“The fire has been brought under control,” Joshi said. ONGC is suspecting the farmer’s hand behind the fire and is contemplating to initiate action against him, he added.
