Ola launches e-rickshaw service in Lucknow

Plans to bring on-board over 300 e-rickshaws over next 3 months

Taxi aggregator Ola today announced launch of e-rickshaws on its mobile app in Lucknow. The company plans to bring on-board over 300 e-rickshaws over the next 3 months.

Lucknow has become the second city in India to get e-rickshaw on Ola app after Delhi-NCR, where it was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April 2016.

The company is confident the new service would provide last-mile connectivity by enabling reliable mobility in one of the fastest growing metros in India and the largest city in Uttar Pradesh.

Ola vice president (new initiatives) Sundeep Sahni said the launch of e-rickshaw on Ola followed the company's MoU with the UP government to introduce new commute options for citizens.

 

"We are using cutting edge technology to upgrade cycle rickshaw peddlers as skilled e-rickshaw driver-entrepreneurs by introducing smart mobility solutions like e-rickshaws, that are not only affordable and environment friendly, but also add to the larger mobility ecosystem," he added.

Ola app for For e-rickshaw drivers is available in 8 Indian languages viz. English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu.

Every e-rickshaw driver on Ola app passes through a KYC verification and training across behavioral, etiquette and technology.

In Lucknow, e-rickshaws would be available at Rs 20 for the first kilometer and Rs 8 per km thereafter. Ola offers several commuting options in Lucknow, including multiple cab options like sedan and mini, autos and now e-rickshaws.
