OMC's export earnings at Rs 107 cr in last 3 yrs

State owned mining firm Orissa Mining Corporation (OMC) has realized Rs 107.57 crore by way of 405,795 tonnes of iron ore exports in the past three years.

The mine PSU has also earned Rs 3790.63 crore through sale of 15.79 million tonnes of the mineral ore within the country during 2008-09 to 2010-11, revealed a written statement made by steel & mines minister Raghunath Mohanty in the state assembly.

OMC excavated 20.59 million tonnes of iron ore during this period which included 7.83 million tonnes in 2008-09, 7.42 million tonnes in 2009-10 and 5.33 million tonnes in 2010-11.

In 2008-09, OMC shipped 136,545 tonnes of iron ore fines to Hong Kong-based S K Resources Ltd and 63,500 tonnes to Noble Resources Ltd, also based out of Hong Kong.

 

In 2009-10, the mine PSU exported 185,750 tonnes to S K Resources while in 2010-11, it shipped 20,000 tonnes of iron ore fines to Dubai-based Trade Line.

Domestic industries, traders and end-users who procured iron ore from OMC in 2010-11 include Bhushan Steel Ltd, Monnet Ispat & Energy Ltd, Adhunik Metaliks Ltd, Maithan Ispat, Dinabandhu Steel & Power Ltd, Visa Steel Ltd, Patnaik Steels & Alloys Ltd, SMC Power Generation Ltd, Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd, Rashmi Metaliks Ltd, SPS Steel & Power Ltd and Maa Tarini Minerals Ltd to name a few.

Meanwhile, 30 mine leases of OMC are lying idle and the company is making efforts to get the necessary clearances in respect of these mines, the minister said in response to a separate query.

At present, four mines owned by OMC are running- Kurmitar iron ore mines (Sundergarh district), South Kaliapani chromite mines (Jajpur district), Sukurangi chromite mines (Jajpur district) and Daitari iron ore mines (Keonjhar district).

Amongst the non-operational mines, OMC has applied for forest diversion in case of Banspani iron ore mines (Keonjhar district), Koira-Bhanjpali mines (Sundergarh district), Rantha iron ore mines (Sundergarh district), Tiringipahar iron ore mines (Keonjhar district), Dubna-Sakeradihi iron ore and manganese mines (Keonjhar district) Khandbandh iron ore mines (Keonjhar district), Koira-Kashira mines, Kathpal chromite mines (Dhenkanal district), Kalarangi chromite mines (Jajpur district), Roida mines, Dalki iron ore and manganese mines (Keonjhar district), Gandhamardhan iron ore mines (Keonjhar district) and Seremda-Bhadrasahi iron ore and manganese mines (Keonjhar district).
