Public sector oil explorer ONGC Limited has allocated an additional 15,000 scmd (standard cubic metres per day) of gas to Steel Exchange India Limited (SEIL) for its captive power plant at Kothapeta, Andhra Pradesh.

The gas will be supplied from Kammapalem field, Rajahmundry asset, on a fall-back basis in pursuant to Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoP&NG) guidelines for allocation of gas from small/isolated fields and marginal fields.

The total gas allocation for SEIL now stands at 75,000 smcd. SEIL has facility to generate up to 12-Mw power at its Kothapeta plant. It currently supplies the unutilised power up to 9- Mw to APTransco.

“We have recently upgraded our gas engines for efficient working and would be able to reach our full potential power generation at Kothapeta with this allocation,” said B Satish Kumar, managing director, SEIL.
