Eyes 45 per cent market share in AC segment
Having already registered sales of over 100,000 split air-conditioners (ACs), MIRC Electronics Ltd., makers of the Onida brand of consumer durables, expects the business in Gujarat to heat up this summer. The company, which also into television (TV) sets, microwave ovens and washing machines, expects a 45 per cent growth in the state of Gujarat for tis AC business.
"With summer underway we have already sold 100,000 units of split ACs this year and are expecting a 45 per cent growth in this segment in Gujarat. Interestingly in the AC segment, Gujarat has shown a 45 per cent growth among enterprises. Even our innovative products like pre-cool ACs have been well received in Gujarat," said Prashant Vaidya, regional business manager for Gujarat and Rajasthan region, MIRC Electronics.
In a bid to cash in on the growth in AC segment, the company launched its first exclusive 'Onida Gallery' in Ahmedabad. Spread over 1,800 sq ft, the gallery will display the range of Onida products. The company will also launch three more exclusive galleries in Ahmedabad apart from launching 30 more such galleries in the country.
Currently, Onida enjoys a 26 per cent market share in Ahmedabad in the air conditioners segment. What's more, the brand recorded a turnover of Rs 250 crore in Gujarat, riding on a 100 per cent growth in Ahmedabad last year across all categories to emerge as a strong player in consumer durables market.
The company is also going to increase its dealership base from 125 to 150 within the region. Talking about the growth in AC category in Gujarat, Krishnamurthy Sriram, vice president, sales, marketing and services, MIRC Electronics Ltd said, "We are leading in the AC market in Gujarat and have a strong consumer base here. Gujarat is an indicator market for most brands and we believe that what happens in Gujarat today will happen in India tomorrow. Hence we have come up with our first exclusive gallery that will offer the full range of Onida products for the consumers."
Meanwhile, the 30 year old consumer durables brand which is a leading manufacturer in microwave ovens, air conditioners, washing machines has now forayed into the mobile category as well.
