Online shoppers on the rise

Branded apparel segment registered maximum growth

With the growing number of deals and discount sites and ease of payments, the number of online shoppers had gone up by 25% to 132.98 million between April-December 2012 when compared with the same period in 2011.

According to the Internet Economy Watch Report (December 2012), by the Internet & Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), the number of online visits for e-tailing category which includes segments like branded apparel, footwear, designer label, jewellery, restaurant and spa, was 106.42 million between April -December 2011. Out of the categories, branded apparel segment registered the maximum growth.

According to the data captured from prominent online travel portals, while 48.50 million users booked online railway and air tickets in April-December period in 2011, the number rose to 65.11 million for the corresponding period in 2012, registering a 34% growth.

 

The number of uploads on matrimonial websites, in the nine-month period in 2012  has gone up to 15.81 million from 12.98 million reported during the same period in 2011, registering a 22% y-o-y growth. The number of resume uploads on job portals at 0.98 million declined marginally in April-December period 2012 when compared with the same period a year ago.
