Optra Systems sets up healthcare research unit

Company is hiring over 165 professionals from the various fields.

City-based Optra Systems, a lifesciences and healthcare solution and services company has set up a research and development centre.

The company is hiring over 165 professionals from the various fields like IT, engineering, and medical. Optra is investing Rs 13 crore for this centre for the next three years. This new venture will be known as Optrea Health.

Abhijeet Gholap, founder and CEO, Optra Systems said, "Optra Health will leverage on the strong R&D experience and expertise to develop biomedical devices for the global market as a part of outsourced product development from its overseas clients and would also focus open creating its own Intellectual Property in this domain."

 

"Our aim is to develop affordable devices for the cancer patients. IP creation is an important aspect of this venture. Core research on gene - diseases correlation to aid 'Human Genome Project', medical instrumentation for cancer imaging, computer aided diagnostic tools and cloud based "Pay as you go" Lab Information Management System (LIMS) have been identified as the four main areas in which 'Optra Health' - the R&D unit of Optra Systems will work", Gholap added.

The R&D lab has come up with product, biomedical and digital oncology laboratories. The company is also filing five international patents within two years of operations.

Considering the R&D background of Optra Systems, the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Government of India has also recognised Optra Health lab as an R&D unit for healthcare and life sciences. With this Government of India recognition 'Optra Health' would be entitled to undertake R&D projects under the 'Biotech Industry Partnership Program' (BIPP) of DSIR for affordable healthcare technologies and products in the field of diagnostics and biomedical devices. These products will be developed by end of 2013.
