Orion India Systems, a subsidiary of the US based Orion Systems Integrators, plans to scale up its workforce in Kochi to about 400 from the present 100 in another three years and was looking at expanding operations to South East Asia and Australia.

The company was also contemplating developing a Cyber Forensic software tool in the current plan, Orion India Systems Director, Narendra Kumar told reporters here.

Orion presently had a huge presence in South America, Chilli, Europe and Germany and there were plans to expand to South East Asia and Australia, he said.

There was vast potential in Australia and New Zealand, which had not been affected by recession, he said.

The company last month had launched its 100 seater state-of-the art Technology and Development Centre here, the second in India after Mumbai.

On the reason for selecting Kochi, Kumar said cities like Pune, Kolapur and Nagpur had been looked at by Orion for its second office in India. But they were not satisfctory as 'there was something lacking there'.

He said the communciations skills of employees from Kerala were better compared to candidates from some other places.

For the Kochi office out of the 170 persons who were interviewed in the first slot, 50 with at least 3-10 years experience were selected. This was the best achievement for Orion in India so far, he said. From Mumbai, of the 200-odd who appeared for interview in October last year, hardly four candidates were selected.
