State run Odisha Small Industries Corporation (OSIC) would soon propose to the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (Omfed) for marketing the double fortified salt (DFS) at the latter's outlets in the state.

OSIC has taken an initiative for brand marketing of MSME (micro, small & medium enterprises) products and accordingly, DFS has been taken up for marketing by the state PSU under a common brand name 'Odi- Food'.

"A proposal will be sent by OSIC to Omfed to consider marketing of DFS at their outlets all over the state. The service charge received by OSIC for marketing the product may be shared between OSIC and Omfed," said an official source.

In addition, the MSME department will also send a proposal to the secretaries of school and mass education, ST & SC development and Women and child development departments and the department of social security and empowerment of persons with disabilities for purchase of Odi-Food (DFS).

The proposal would contain the details of the production of DFS units covered by OSIC, facility for test reports, quantity of production per annum and details of the manufacturing for taking further action by the respective departments.

The MSME department along with food supplies and consumer welfare department will assess the requirement of the salt and explore the possibility of procurement to meet part of the requirement through OSIC. It was also decided that OSIC will explore the possibility of marketing the product in other government and private educational institutions having marketing facilities.
