Oswal Chemicals and Fertilisers Limited has come forward to set up fertiliser plants in Andhra Pradesh. Its chairman and managing director Abhay Oswal on Tuesday met chief minister K Rosaiah to discuss the issue.

Oswal has proposed a 1.2-million tonne per year capacity urea plant based on natural gas with an estimated investment of Rs 5,000 crore. Oswal's request for gas allocation for the project has already been forwarded by the chemicals and fertilisers ministry to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

The group has also proposed to set up a one-million tonne capacity diammonium phosphate plant (DAP) with an investment of ' 2,000 crore.

The fertiliser plant would also have a 100-Mw capacity power plant using surplus steam from urea manufacturing facilities supplemented by coal. It would employ about 5,000 workforce during the construction phase and about 1,000 skilled and unskilled manpower during normal plant operations.

The group controls ownership interest in coal mines in Indonesia having more than 100 million tonne of coal reserves. Phosphoric acid required for the plant would be imported from the Syrian Arab Republic.

The ammonia requirement for the DAP plant would be met out of surplus ammonia from the proposed urea plant. This plant would employ about 3,000 people during the construction phase and 700 skilled and unskilled manpower during normal plant operations. The chief minister agreed to consider the proposal of Oswal.
