The Indian packaging industry is expected to grow at 15 per cent per annum on the back of rising consumption and demand for packaged products across the country.
The industry is pegged at $13.5 billion and is expected to reach at $18 billion by 2015. Among the industry, the plastic packaging segment is growing at 20-25 per cent annually.
Packaging for essential products like food, beverage, milk, vegetable, foodgrains and pharma are the key driving segments because of the huge domestic consumption, said AVPS Chakravarthi, chairman of Indian Institute of Packaging, Hyderabad (IIP-H).
The industry in Andhra Pradesh contributes around 8 per cent to the country’s total production.
IndPack-2011, a three-day national packaging exhibition, will kickstart from November 24 at Hyderabad with 150 exhibitors.
