After a delay for about one year, the construction work for Palladam Hi-tech Weaving Park (PHWP), which is expected to boost the modernisation in the weaving industry, is in full swing at Perumpalli, 20 km away from Tirupur. |
"The park will house 95 weaving sheds to accommodate 728 shuttle-less looms, six master weaving units and four sizing units. The construction would be completed before March, 2006 and business activities are expected to begin at the park by September 2006," P Kumarasamy, secretary, Coimbatore District Powerloom Owners' Association, told Business Standard. |
The union government has granted Rs 20 crore under the Textile Centre Infrastructure Development Scheme, meanwhile the state has sanctioned Rs 4.86 crore. |
The 105 stakeholders will contribute Rs 2.45 crore and the remaining 27.6 crore would be obtained through banks and financial institutions. Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL & FS) has been named as the implementing agency by the central government, he added. |
"The thrust would be on productivity and we try to bring a substantial reduction in noise level. The park is likely to provide direct employment to 3,000 persons," Kumarasamy said. |
PHWP will also have warehousing, testing and training facilities, exhibition hall, power generation and distribution facility besides an effluent treatment plant to be set up by each individual unit. |
With the setting up of this park, the traditional textiles town of Palladam is likely to become a hub for home textiles, he added. |
