Parametric Technology (India) Pvt Ltd, the Indian arm of the US-based $721 million PTC, has identified aerospace and defence as growth areas for its product lifecycle management (PLM) software solutions in India.

Though automotive sector has been the engine of growth in the country for Parametric India, it now plans to seize the emerging opportunities in aerospace and defence sectors.

Rohit Biddappa, marketing manager, Parametric India, told Business Standard that phenomenal developments were happening in the aerospace and defence sectors in the country. Research labs in aerospace and defence sectors are focusing on designing new warships and aircraft. Our PLM software solutions are well-designed for these kind of applications, he added.

PTC is the supplier of PLM solutions to the global aerospace and defence industry. Boeing, Airbus Lockheed Martin, NASA, Raytheon and General Dynamics are among its clients.

However, Biddappa said that the company, which provides software solutions for CAD/CAM/CAE and PLM, would continue to grow in automotive sector in India.

He said that PLM market in India was still in its nascent stage and the company would be focusing on raising awareness levels in the country. Of the total 1,400 customers spread across large corporations, MNCs and original equipment manufacturers in India, its PLM customers are only about 10 per cent. The rest are from the small and medium business (SMB) segment.

The company has acquired a strong customer base in SMB segment for its CAD/CAM/CAE solutions.

Besides providing CAD/CAM solutions, it provides solutions for data management, change management and collaborative design for SMBs. However, it provides flexibility to SMB customers to choose the required modules in its products.

Heaquartered in Bangalore, Parametric India, which commenced its operations ten years back, also plans to focus on heavy engineering, consumer goods and publishing sectors. The company offers three core products " Pro/Engineer Wildfire, Windchill PDMLink and Windchill ProjectLink. PTC has another arm in India, PTC Software (India) Private Limited, which carries out research and development activities in Pune with staff strength of 600.
