Patel Engg to bid for hydro power plants

Patel Engineering is planning to venture into hydro power generation as the company plans to bid for independent power projects (IPPs) based on hydro-electric power.

According to an official release issued by Patel Engineering to the BSE today, "the company is planning to bid for mid-size projects in the range of 100- 500 MW on build operate and transfer (BOT) basis in the northern and north eastern regions."

Rupen Patel, MD of Patel Engineering, said: "We have been contractors for a number of hydel projects, and see this as a move in the right direction. We intend to bid for projects on BOT basis with plans of running the plant ourselves. We will be actively bidding for such projects starting next year."

The company had recently bagged a Rs 439.07 crore worth order for 520 MW  Parbati hydro-electric project stage III from National Hydroelectric Power Corporation in a consortium with Larsen & Toubro.

It is also executing hydro power projects in Teesta, Sewa and Turial, and has constructed three dams at Ghatghar near Nashik using roller compacted concrete (RCC) technology for the first time in India.
