Patel Engineering, a civil infrastructure construction company, today announced that it has bagged the single largest irrigation project in India, the Pranahita – Chevella Lift Irrigation – Package 6 of Rs 3,859 crore from the government of Andhra Pradesh in consortium with BHEL and Navyuga Construction.

The Pranahita Lift Irrigation scheme will divert about 160 thousand million cubic meters (TMC) of water from the river Pranahita to irrigate an area of 12, 20,000 acres in the drought prone areas of the Telangana region.

The project is all inclusive and involves investigation, designing, construction  and maintenance of approach channels, tunnels, pump houses, electro mechanical and hydro mechanical and pipe line works.

The project is expected to get commissioned within next 48 months. This project is a part of  the modernisation programme undertaken by the Andhra Pradesh government to boost irrigation potential.

Rupen Patel, managing director, Patel Engineering said: “As scheduled we  will be commissioning the Bheema Lift Irrigation Project stage I by end of February, 2009 and Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation stage I by end of January, 2010.”

He also added: “As a part of our continuing strategy, we will be bidding for larger projects to enhance our portfolio. We have already bagged orders in excess of Rs 2,500 crore this year. In spite of the economic slowdown, we are  confident that we will be able to buck the downturn of the economy and the  order book growth will be the highest this year. Our focus will continue to  remain in high margin areas like hydro power and irrigation, both in India and worldwide.”
