In a bid to cash in on the growing number of young travellers, new entrant in the affordable boutique hotel segment, Peppermint Hotels, plans to open 10 such hotels with about 900 rooms by end 2011, a top company official said.
Peppermint, an independent hotel chain floated by the promoters of the BSE-listed Royal Orchids, currently operates one hotel in Gurgaon. However, it does not own any stake in Peppermint Hotels.
"The number of young and middle-class travellers is increasing by the day. Of the 300 million middle class population, about 180-million will have the capacity to spend on travel and tourism over the next few years. We are focusing on this segment. Our plan is to set up 10 hotels by end next year," Peppermint's Managing Director Arjun Baljee told PTI here.
Besides, it is also targeting the increasing number of foreign travellers that have the capacity to spend about $100 per night for a room.
The company, that opened its first 46 room hotel in Gurgaon early this year, is looking at setting up hotels, in tier I and II cities such as Jaipur, Jodhpur, Pune, Ahmedabad Baroda, Kumarakom, and Bangalore.
