UK-based Polecam Limited has forayed into the Indian market with its long-arm camera system-Polecam.

Polecam is a single operator's lightweight crane with sophisticated camera fitted at the end of carbon fibre boom, configurable in length from five feet to 20 feet, explained Mel Noonan, international sales and marketing manager, Polecam.

The company was primarily eyeing production houses and television equipment rental companies for the product.

It would also participate in major fairs to popularise the product that could be used as an alternative to crane that costs around Rs 1 crore, said Mukherjee. Noonan said, "We are having plans to expand our presence in nearly all countries, We are expecting good response from the Indian market."

Prior to the India launch, Polecam hit the Russian market with the product.

The company has entered into an exclusive arrangement with Kolkata-based Victor Informatics Pvt Ltd for marketing its products. "We are expecting to sell around 10 Polecam cameras over the next 12 months," said Samir Mukherjee, managing director, Victor Informatics.

In the last seven years, around 160 Polecam cameras were sold in several countries including UK, USA, Russia, Germany and Italy. After India, Polecam cameras were most likely to be launched in China and South Africa, added Noonan.

The Polecam camera system would cost around £15,500 without the camera, which could cost between £4,000 and £20,000, he noted. Cameras from manufacturers including Toshiba, Ikegami, Iconix were used in Polecam system, Noonan said.

The camera system attracts around 32 per cent custom duty in India. Polecam was all set to touch six digit turnover this year, Noonan said.
