German luxury carmaker Porsche today said it expects sales in India to grow by about 20 per cent in 2009, although it is anticipating drop in global sales during the year.

"Porsche is still in its infancy in India, but still demand for our cars has been increasing constantly. We are targeting to sell 200 units in 2009," Porsche importer Precision Cars India Managing Director Rod Wallace told reporters here.

This will be an increase of around 20 per cent over the 168 units it sold last year across its entire range of 22 models.

"Automobile sales have been stalled globally due to economic slowdown... Porsche will cut its production as it is expecting its sales to be around 80,000 units this year compared to 98,000 units in 2008," Wallace said.

The company today launched the diesel version of its sports utility vehicle Cayenne, priced at Rs 64.95 lakh (on- road). The car would be powered by a 3.0 litre turbo engine.

"We have brought 19 units of Cayenne Diesel for India, of which three have already been sold," he said.
