Interrupted power supply, coupled with frequent voltage fluctuation, has severely hit Chhattisgarh's biggest industrial growth centre located near the state capital.

Industrialists are forced to bear heavy losses because of the failure of state-run power distribution company to rectify the problem. Production had been hit in about 150 units in Siltara-Urla industrial growth centre on the outskirts of Raipur.

The Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company has failed to update its system while supply to the centre continued from the old feeder and supply line which were in poor shape, Udyog Mahasangh President Mahesh Kakkad said. "Since the old supply line could not bear the load, the power supply in the centre had been disrupted," he added.

According to the industrialists, power supply was disrupted for about 51 hours till date this month while in the month of August, industries located in the centre did not get power for 38 hours. The steel manufacturing units were the worst suffers.

According to Kakkad, the industrial association had brought the matter to the notice of officials concerned. But still, no action was taken to rectify the fault, he added.

Managing Director of Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company G S Despande said that three power sub-stations had been proposed for the industrial growth centre.

The work for the same would start soon, he added.
