The power production at the Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC) IB thermal power station in Jharsuguda district has been hit due to  leakage in the boiler tube of Unit -2 with capacity of 210 mw (megawatt).

“The power generation has been stopped from Saturday evening after a leakage has been detected in the boiler tube of Unit-2,” said a top OPGC official.

The unit is likely to be synchronized by evening, added the official.

It may be noted, OPGC runs two units of thermal power with a capacity of 210 mw each in the IB Valley. The entire generation from OPGC is committed to the state transmission utility GRIDCO on the basis of a long term power purchase agreement.

OPGC , presently, is planning to add another 1,320 mw to its capacity. The expansion project which involved adding two units of 660 mw is taken up at a cost of around Rs 10,000 crore during the 12th Plan (2012-17) period.

The public sector undertaking has been allotted two coal blocks, namely Manoharpur and Dip-side Manoharpur in Sundergarh district.
