The loss-making public broadcasting corporation Prasar Bharati may see major restructuring after a group of ministers meets early next month to take stock of its functioning.

"The corporation is performing in the largest public service obligation in the face of challenges from the commercial television channels,"  information and broadcasting minister P R Dasmunsi, said adding a GoM will look into the issue concerning the broadcaster in first week of October.

Rejecting suggestions that the Doordarshan and All India Radio run by the Prasar Bharati mainly serve to the ruling party interests, Dasmunsi said facts were quite the opposite as "it were the non-UPA chief ministers who got the highest priority" in their respective regional DD Kendras.
