President Pranab Mukherjee will join a galaxy of political and business leaders tomorrow evening to celebrate corporate excellence at the Business Standard Annual Awards, to be held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Mumbai.
Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan will preside over the function which will honour the outstanding businesses and business people of the year. Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan will be the guest of honour.
The corporate award winners were chosen by a seven-member distinguished jury, led by ICICI Bank and Infosys Chairman K V Kamath. The other members of the jury were AMM Foundation's Managing Trustee M V Subbiah; Marico Chairman and Managing Director Harsh Mariwala; L&T Finance Holdings CMD Y M Deosthalee; AZB Partners' Managing Partner Zia Mody; KKR India CEO Sanjay Nayar and McKinsey India Managing Director Noshir Kaka.

The award winners - CEO of the Year, the Company of the Year, the Innovative Company of the Year, the Star MNC of the Year and the Star SME of the Year - were chosen after an initial shortlisting was done by Business Standard of firms that had posted top line and bottom line growth of over 20 per cent compounded in each of the three years between 2009-10 and 2011-12. Other financial criteria, including returns on net worth and capital employed, were also applied.
The Banker of the Year award was chosen by a jury headed by the former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India, M Damodaran.
For the mutual funds awards, the jury was headed by G N Bajpai, former Sebi chairman.
This year will see the introduction of a new award - the Lifetime Achievement Award - and the winner was decided by a poll conducted among senior editors at Business Standard.
