Production at Hyundai Motor’s Sriperumbudur unit, near Chennai, resumed today after the Tamil Nadu government intervened in the three-day stand-off between the auto company’s management and the plant’s employees.

A memorandum of understanding was signed today between the management and the employees’ union, which stated that a six-member committee will be formed to address all issues. State Labour Minister T M Anbarasan headed today’s meeting.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) Senior Vice-President (Finance and Corporate Affairs) R Sethuraman, who represented the management in the negotiations, said the committee will consist of two members each from the government, Hyundai management and the workers’ union.

It was agreed that of the 87 employees who were dismissed last year, 20 would be taken back, while the case of 35 employees would be reviewed. But, 32 would still face legal charges.
