Qatar Airways, the national airline of the state of Qatar, was in the final stages of completing research on utilising the GTL-Kerosene mix, he said.

Noting that preliminary results were quite encouraging, Al Baker said his airline would be using the fuel from next year after securing necessary certification from the government.

"It will be a new type of fuel that will lessen carbon emission from the engine," he said, adding since the fuel might not be commonly available initially, the airline would have to use GTL alone where the kerosene mix was not available.

While Qatar Airways was keen to introduce more and more fuel-efficient and less carbon-emitting aircraft, the governments charging carbon tax were not doing anything to provide alternative renewable energy, he said.

During the Dubai Air Show held last year, the airline had signed an agreement with some MNCs for manufacturing the fuel, he added.
