American digital wireless firm Qualcomm has set up a 'Chipset' research and development centre in Hyderabad and plans to reach a 'three digit' workforce in one year. |
"The Chipset R&D centre in Hyderabad was started one-and-half months ago," Brian Dunphy, director (business development) of Qualcomm, told reporters here at the launch of Tata Indicom's Push-to-Talk services built on Qualcomm's technology platform. |
Qualcomm has developed the code division multiple access technology used for Wireless in Local Loop (WLL) phones that has been deployed in millions by Reliance, Tata and BSNL in India. |
Dunphy declined to specify the investments or the existing workforce at the Hyderabad centre. "It would reach three digits by the year-end," he said. |
The American telecom technology giant is also finalising plans to set up an 'engineering support centre' either at Hyderabad or Pune. The Indian centre would be the fifth support centre of Qualcomm after San Diego, China, Korea and Japan. |
