Qualcomm to provide higher-end smart phones

"We are aiming towards introducing sub-$250 or Smart Phones, below Rs 10,00 in India soon," said Kanwalinder Singh, President, Qualcomm India & South Asia

The company has already initiated talks with its original equipment manufacturing partners.

"We are have already initiated this process, and the OEMs are at present in the designing stage, we should be able to roll out these phones by 2009," he added. The smartphones will be available with full in-built HSDPA, an advance version of 3G mobile functions.  

 

Qualcomm has OEM partners like ZTE, Huawei, LG, Samsung, HTC, however, Singh refused to reveal which of his existing partners he was collaborating with for this venture.

A smartphone is basically a mobile phone offering advanced capabilities beyond a typical mobile phone, often with PC-like functionality.

Smartphones are full-featured mobile phones with personal computer like functionality with camera and email capabilities with a complete personal organiser.     

It is ideal for customisation with the ability to add-on applications and also edit and share popular business applications like documents, spreadsheets and presentation files. However it is available at a minimum price point of Rs 15,00 at present.
