Race 2 collects Rs 51.35 crore at domestic BO

UTV, TIPS action thriller also nets Rs 18.9 cr from overseas

Director duo Abbas-Mustan’s latest action thriller movie Race 2, is on its way to become the first hit of 2013!

The sequel to 2008 film of the same name, Race 2 opened to above average to full houses at the mass centres. The multiplexes saw increase in footfalls in the evening shows and over the weekends.

After collecting Rs 15.12 crore on Friday, it jumped to Rs 20.72 crore on Saturday being a national holiday. However, the collection softened on Sunday to Rs 15.51 crore. Overall, during its first weekend, the film collected Rs 51.35 crore.

“We are extremely happy with the three day weekend of Race 2, it’s the second biggest weekend collections of all times for a three day period and the first film in 2013 to do so. We always knew the sequel to the hit Race (2008) will be liked by the audiences and the numbers are proving just the same at the box office. The film has performed exceptionally well in North and South India beating all box office collection benchmarks,” Gaurav Verma, Director - India Theatrical Distribution, Studios, Disney UTV said.

 

In the international box office it has collected Rs 18.9 crore ($3.25 million). It took home approximately $1 million in Gulf, close to $1 Million in USA and UK.

“Race 2 has seen an incredible response by audience across international markets. People have braved the weather conditions in UK and on the East Coast in the US and come to watch the movie in theatres. The box office in markets like Australia, UK, North America has seen a significant jump on Saturday/ Sunday,” said Amrita Pandey, Executive Director - Syndication, International Distribution & Disney Media Distribution, Studios, Disney UTV.

Race 2 stars Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Jacqueline Fernandez and Anil Kapoor.
