Rallis net drops 57%
 
Rallis India has reported a declined 57.34 per cent in net profit to Rs 13.32 crore during the third quarter ended December 31, 2004 as against Rs 31.23 crore in the corresponding third quarter last year.
 
Rallis reported a 22 per cent increase in sales during the period under review. Sales of pesticides - which now contribute more than 95 per cent of the total, grew by 40 per cent over the same quarter in the previous year. Profit before exceptional items for the quarter is positive at Rs.10.49 crores against a loss of Rs.22.73 crores during the quarter last year.
 
There was an exceptional profit last year on sale of assets (Rs 53.82 crore). In spite of not having any exceptional profit during the current quarter, the company made an impressive net profit of Rs 13.32 crore on the strength of its operations, Rallis said.
 
For the nine month period ending December 31, 2004, the company has shown a substantial sales increase from Rs 379.30 crore to Rs.450.65 crore, driven by its pesticides business that grew by 33 per cent.
 
Profit before tax for nine months has trebled from Rs 10.46 crore last year to Rs 30.46 crore this year.
 
Sundaram-Clayton net down 7%
 
Sundaram-Clayton recorded a net profit of Rs 13.89 crore in the third quarter of 2004-05, a fall of 7.33 per cent in relation to the previous year's net profit of Rs 14.99 crore. Net sales for the quarter stood at Rs 136.45 crore, an increase of 24.50 per cent compared with last year's Rs 109.59 crore.
