Ranbaxy flags off path lab in city

 The lab has already started after a soft launch in the city and the commercial launch would follow in a few days, top sources in the company told Business Standard.

 The Kolkata market has emerged as a large one for medical services in recent years with users coming in from south Asian countries like Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan.

 The source said SRL was responding to this need. In the pipeline was a lab at Leh, which would offer same day diagnostic service at that location.

 The company would offer close to 3000 tests at its Kolkata outlet and the lab would be linked to its central facility in Mumbai for handling of very advanced and rare tests, the source indicated. Costs would be competitive for users.

 The source claimed that the cost of important tests like a polymerase chain reaction had been brought down to Rs 1300 now from Rs 26,000 in 1996, thanks to economies and scale and SRL
