Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council Chairman C Rangarajan today said the committee headed by him will consider the suggestion of revenue sharing between the sugar industry and growers.

The committee was constituted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to examine issues related to decontrolling the sugar sector.

After a meeting with Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, Rangarajan said the state government has suggested a revenue-sharing formula so that if the sugar industry makes profit "at a particular level", it could be shared with sugarcane growers.

This is in addition to the minimum price given to sugarcane growers.

He said supplementing fair and remunerative prices by revenue sharing mechanism is "something that's possible", adding, "we will further pursue this suggestion".
