Ravi Uppal, former head of global markets and member of the group executive committee of the ABB Group, has joined Larsen & Toubro (L&T) as the managing director and chief executive officer of L&T Power.

L&T, which is making a major entry into power generation has set up joint ventures with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for the manufacture of boilers and turbines. Manufacturing facilities for these units are currently under construction. The company has also got into joint ventures with European and US majors for power plant engineering and auxiliary systems.
Uppal was the regional president of ABB's operations in India and the Asia Pacific, before being appointed at the group level in the company. He had earlier established Volvo's operations in India as its founding managing director and led the introduction of several transportation concepts including the Volvo intercity coaches.
