The Centre for iron & Steel (RDCIS) in Ranchi, the corporate research unit of the Steel Authority of India (SAIL), provided technological inputs to steel plants of SAIL and helped them improving productivity and quality while reducing cost and energy consumption, sources in the RDCIS claimed.
RDCIS had assumed a major role in developing and commercialising new steel products according to market requirements, sources added.
RDCIS projects covered several steel plants based on their needs. During 2009-10, RDCIS completed 70 projects where 15 new products were developed, resulting in certified annual benefit (CAB) of Rs 483.45 crore.
A S Mathur, executive director in-charge of RDCIS in a meeting of the RDCIS employees said that during 2010-11, RDCIS was pursuing 110 projects, out of which RDCIS planned to complete 71 projects and rest of the projects would be on-going.
