Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) would award the developers for executing two transmission projects next month.
REC is the nodal agency for two independent transmission projects -- Rs 3,500-crore North Karanpura and Rs 1,200-crore Talcher-II.
"The bids would be opened in December and the lowest bidders would be awarded these projects," a senior REC official said.
The 1,045-km-long North Karanpura transmission line will be implemented in 30-42 months. This line will serve Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, while the Talcher-II is 592-km long and will be implemented in 30 months, to primarily Andhra Pradesh and Orissa.
Sterlite Technologies has bagged the first independent transmission project, the East-North Interconnection project, for which the nodal agency is PFC Consulting.
The Rs 950-crore East-North interconnection is 950-km-long and will be implemented in 36 months (from the date of issuance of letter of intent) covering Assam, West Bengal and Bihar.
These first independent transmission projects would help in ending the monopoly of central transmission utility, PowerGrid Corporation.
