The state owned Singareni Collieries Company Limited(SCCL) has achieved a record production of 35.3 million tonnes in the year 2004-05.

The achievement is remarkable in the face of the resultant loss of 1.1 million tonnes of production on account of ban on use of nitro-glycerin-based explosives in underground mines.

Despite this loss, coal production has witnessed a growth rate of 4.3 per cent over the last year's production, according to a press release.

The company has also achieved an all-time record in coal despatches. SCCL despatched 34.7 million tonnes of coal during the year 2004-05 of which 74 per cent of coal went to power plants.

The despatches to cement industry stood at 10.4 million tonnes, which constitutes 14 per cent of the total production. The company's productivity(measured as output per man shift) in 2004-05 was 1.62 tonnes as compared to 1.51 tonnes in 2002-03, the press release said.
