Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), the flagship entity of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has recorded best ever saleable steel production in the first three quarters of fiscal 2013-14. BSP has concluded the nine-month period from April to December of the current financial year 2013-14 by registering growth of 2.5 per cent, 1.6 per cent and 2.2 per cent over corresponding period of the last fiscal in the cumulative hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel production, respectively.
A statement issued by the company said that the plant recorded its best ever saleable steel production of 3.40 million tonnes (MT) for April to December period, surpassing the previous best of 3.38 MT recorded in 2010-11. Loading of 3.36 MT saleable steel has also been best-ever, surpassing the previous best of 3.35 MT achieved in 2010-11.
The production of cast steel at SMS-2 was also best ever at 2.07 MT surpassing the previous best of 2.02 MT in Apr-Dec2009.For the month of December 2013, the plant achieved a fulfillment of 108.1 per cent, 105.3 per cent and 100.0 per cent of Annual Business Plan (ABP) targets for hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel respectively. Production of TMT Wire rods at 32,600 T in December 2013 was best ever for any December month so far surpassing the previous best of 29,700 T recorded in December 2010.
The company statement added that the production of 166,000 tonnes (T) of high tensile plates in April to December 2013 has also been the best ever for the period, surpassing the previous best of 1.23 lakh T in 2012-13. Production of 213,000 T of 26 meter rails for Indian Railways has been the best ever for the period, surpassing the previous best of 186,000 T in 2009-10.
