Reliance Telecommunications, a fully-owned subsidiary of Anil Ambani group company Reliance Communications, has applied for CDMA spectrum in Assam and North East circles in line with the new telecom policy, which allows companies to offer dual technology, sources said.

"The company applied for spectrum on Monday," a source said.

Reliance Telecom currently offers GSM-based mobile services in the two circles besides six other states in the eastern region.

Reliance Communications had said on Friday that it had got government approval for offering GSM services across the country.
