Reliance Energy net up 23% at Rs 165 cr

The Anil Ambani-controlled Reliance Energy posted a 22.66 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 164.64 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2005, as compared with 134.22 crore in the corresponding period of the last year.
 
The total income grew marginally to Rs 1,137.63 crore during the third quarter of this financial year from Rs 1,134.75 crore in the same period of the last year.
 
Profit before tax went up by 31.27 per cent to Rs 191.16 crore from Rs 145.62 crore. Earnings per share at the end of the third quarter stood at Rs 8.16 from Rs 7.25.
 
The equity capital of the company increased to Rs 201.94 crore, from Rs 185.61 crore due to conversion of equity warrants alloted to the Reliance group, preferential allotment of equity shares, and part conversion of outstanding foreign currency convertible bonds.
 
The good Q3 show failed to cheer the weak market today. The stock today closed at Rs 599.90 on the BSE, 1.56 per cent lower than yesterday's close of Rs 609.40.
 
During the first nine months of 2005, the company posted a 32 % growth in net profit to Rs 481 crore from the corresponding previous period's Rs 366 crore. Total income went up 13 per cent to Rs 3,383 crore from Rs 3,003 crore.
