Reliance Infocomm, the information communications arm of the Reliance group, has licensed Thin Multimedia, Inc, a subsidiary of 3G, and a leading provider of wireless video streaming solutions, to provide video services for its limited mobility services subscribers.
Reliance will deploy this service over its entire CDMA 1x network, covering most areas of the country. Subscribers will have ready access to a variety of multimedia content, including news clips, sports highlights, movie previews, music videos, personalised video messages and more, over colour and gray-scale phones.
Thin Multimedia announced today that Reliance Infocomm had licensed it for its mobile video streaming solutions.

However, a Reliance Infocomm spokesperson declined to comment on the matter. The rollout of operations is expected to enable Reliance to offer fixed-line services in 18 out of 22 circles, wireless in local loop (WiLL)-based mobile services, national long-distance services and high-speed data transmission services where CDMA 2000 1x technology will help transmit data up to 144 kbps. Also, the company is throwing in value-added services, including video transmission and digital conferencing.
Reliance expected to corner a substantial market share within two years of its launch, industry sources said.
Thin Multimedia provides the entire spectrum of wireless video streaming solutions, which include authoring tools, streaming server software and a software-based player on handsets.
Dale Park, chief operating officer of Thin Multimedia, said: "Reliance's brand and technology leadership will enable us to reach new customers in emerging markets. Thin Multimedia's continued success in licensing its uniquely efficient software validates the demand for wireless video services. Forward-looking wireless operators are already generating incremental revenue and gaining competitive differentiation through such services."
