Reliance Infocomm would announce its broadband initiatives after the government unveils the new policy for broadband next week, said Anil Ambani, vice-president, Reliance Industries. "Communication business has been a growth engine for years. It is one of our core businesses and we will continue to strive for our goals," Ambani told reporters on the sidelines of the launch of his personal website.

On launching his website, Ambani said, "This is a global communications platform, without any boarder or timezones. It will bring closer a large number of people, especially a large number of young people, who use webmedia."

Dayanidhi Maran, minister for communications and information technology, launched Ambani's website.

"This is a technological initiative which will encourage new standards of transparency in public life. I hope more parliamentarians will follow suit and become interactive citizens of the digital age that we live in," he said after the launch. The website, "anildambaniforindia.com," will be a trilingual one, with Hindi, English and Urdu versions, Ambani said. The website would have a message board where people can post their suggestions in 14 different languages. A 24-hour call centre will provide the interactive facility.

Meanwhile, the company has launched its Chennai call centre spread over 8000 sq mtr and having an initial capacity to seat over 1200 customer service personnel. The centre located at suburban Padi will be later expanded to seat over 3000 personnel.
